 Clinton lauds fellow chasers Baroka

With the big guns stuttering this season, Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen dreams of a Premiership title race photo-finish with Baroka.

In a surprising outcome after 10 games, Baroka and Arrows lead the Absa Premiership pack with Bakgaga on the summit with 17 points, while Abafana Bes'thende are second with 15 points.

While they have been blazing the trail, the biggest teams including champions Bidvest Wits, Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have had sub-par runs thus far.

"I think it makes for an exciting league. Unpredictability is a name that comes to mind. It's good for our football and we will continue to try to do our best as a small club," Larsen said.

"The players they [Baroka] signed in the new season turned things around and the quality of the loan players as well. Credit must go to Kgoloko Thobejane and Doctor Khumalo."

Larsen was formally handed the award for the PSL Coach of the Month which he won for the month of August and September at training in Durban yesterday.

The former Celtic and Maritzburg United tactician wants the award to serve as motivation for his players for the bigger award at the end of the campaign.

With the big clubs set to come out strong after the Fifa break, Larsen's only concern is not having an expansive enough squad to fight until the end of the season.

"The challenge will always be the depth in the team. We as small teams do not have the depth that the big teams have. That is always going to be our challenge.

"We went through that when we had injuries and suspensions. Baroka and Celtic will also have that challenge."
