Chippa United's giant-killing ways came to an abrupt end yesterday but it was Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune who made news in the Telkom Knockout Cup quarterfinal against Chippa United.

Khune left the pitch on a stretcher in the closing stage after he collided with United's Kurt Lentjies in a game that was decided by Bernard Parker's penalty goal. Lentjies was also stretchered off.

Chiefs confirmed last night that Khune had a knock above his eye and it was swollen.

"He has been taken to hospital for a scan to determine the extent of his injury," the club said via its official Twitter account.

The news could cause panic in the Bafana camp ahead of SA's crucial World Cup qualifier against Senegal on Friday.

Amakhosi, meanwhile, will face Bidvest Wits in the semifinals, while Polokwane City will meet Bloemfontein Celtic in another match.

The two-leg matches are set for November 18 and 19.

The defeat for Chippa means their unblemished run under coach Teboho Moloi, which lasted eight matches, has come to an end.

Chiefs turned on the charm to produce a match-winning performance after absorbing early pressure from United.

They gave Chippa an early scare in the fourth minute but Parker was ruled offside.

Andile Mbenyane probably had United's best chance of the half.

Khune clashed with his defender Eric Mathoho and the ball fell for Mbenyane, who somehow shot wide with the goal gaping.

Chippa had nothing to show for those early chances and were made to pay when defender James Okwuosa fouled Joseph Malongoane in the area to concede a penalty.

Parker made no mistake with the spot-kick.

Chiefs had the ball in the net again seven minutes later when Siphiwe Tshabalala's free-kick found William Katsande's head, but the goal was disallowed.

Chippa's introduction of the in-form Samuel Julies and Lentjies yielded little.
