Hunt urges Gamal to stay in the box

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt is chuffed at the good mindset of his Egyptian striker Amr Gamal.

The 26-year-old is the reason the Clever Boys are in the semifinals of the Telkom Knockout after his solitary strike against Baroka in the quarterfinals at the weekend sent Wits to the last four.

However, Hunt feels Gamal must work a little bit harder on his finishing even as he is impressed with the north African's good mindset, which he thought was excellent and needed to be followed by other players.

Gamal joined Wits on loan from Al Ahly in August, becoming the first Egyptian to play in South African. He has since scored five goals in 11 matches, including in competition games

"I think if he stays in the box a little bit more, he would be much better. He misses a lot. My daughter would have scored that one," said Hunt .

"We need this type of players; they bring in a great mentality.

"These ones [Egyptians] are crazy. Maybe they can learn a lot from our movements but mentality-wise, they give a lot into the team."

Advancing to the quarterfinals of the competition should give Wits a new lease of life, given their poor league form.

But Hunt knows the growing number of injuries and fixture congestion will not make it easy.

"I do not know if it's a good or bad thing for us to get through."

The win over Baroka came at a prize for defender Nazeer Allie who suffered a hamstring injury, joining the club's long injury list of Eleazar Rodgers, Kabomelo Kodisang, Daylon Claasen and Ben Motshwari.
