Heading into their Carling Black Label Cup clash against arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs tomorrow at FNB Stadium (3.30pm), Orlando Pirates players are eager to win back the hearts of their supporters after a disastrous past season.

As much as he knows they disappointed their fans by finishing outside of the top eight last season, Pirates defender Ayanda Gcaba believes winning against Chiefs tomorrow will be the first step for the club to re-gain supporters' faith.

"We know that we did not have a great season but our focus now is on giving our fans something so they will trust us again. A derby is different from any other game because you do not need any motivation.

"A victory tomorrow will bring back hope to the Ghost," said the 31-year-old Gcaba.

"We apologised many times to our fans. The only thing left for us now is to perform well on the field. We have a new mentality because we have learnt from last season's mistakes."

Midfielder Mpho Makola also expects the Sea Robbers faithful to start believing in them as players should they win the "Beer Cup" tomorrow.

"We need the trust of our supporters. Winning the derby will bring us that. We have talked about the mistakes we did last season. It is time to rectify them by giving our fans hope going into the new season," added Makola.
