SuperSport United players have pinned their hopes of making it into the last eight of the CAF Confederation Cup on their new coach Eric Tinkler's experience of coaching in the same competition.

The 46-year-year-old mentor, who joined SuperSport from Cape Town City last month, trained his new team for the second day yesterday.

Matsatsantsa will only confirm today whether or not Tinkler will be on the bench for tomorrow's game. If he doesn't get the nod, assistant coach Kaitano Tembo will call the shots. SuperSport face Gabonese side CF Mounana in their final group match at Lucas Moripe Stadium tomorrow (3.30pm).

Striker Kingston Nkhatha trusts that Tinkler's experience in Africa's second-tier club competition will see them through to the quarterfinals. The former Bafana Bafana midfielder steered Orlando Pirates to the 2015 Confed Cup final and was assistant coach when Pirates reached the CAF Champions League final two years earlier.

"Having a coach like him will be an advantage for us. I hope that he will bring something that will help us do well in the league when the season starts," Nkhatha said.

Matsatsantsa's goalkeeper Ronwen Williams also expects Tinkler to come with a magic wand.

"I am positive that we will qualify for the last eight because Tinkler has been there, he knows how Confederation Cup games are won," said Williams yesterday.

Veteran midfielder Reneilwe "Yeye" Letsholonyane also emphasised the importance of having a coach of Tinkler's calibre at this stage of the Confed Cup.

"His experience will be vital for us," said Letsholonyane.

To qualify for the knockout phase, Matsatsantsa must win and hope that there is a winner between TP Mazembe and Horoya in the other Group C match. If SuperSport win and Mazembe and Horoya draw then all three teams will finish on 10 points. That will mean that CAF's head-to-head rule will come into play to determine the qualifying teams.
