SuperSport sharpen claws

A match against TP Mazembe in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages is exactly what SuperSport United need to prepare for Saturday's Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates, according to Matsatsantsa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

SuperSport's first big test of the week starts at Lucas Moripe Stadium tonight (7pm) when they host DRC giants and Confederation Cup defending champions Mazembe.

The former SA champions will then travel to Moses Mabhida Stadium to take on the Buccaneers in the final match of the domestic season on Saturday night (8.15pm).

Assistant coach Kaitano Tembo will guide SuperSport tonight in the absence of Stuart Baxter who will only return to the bench for the Ke Yona final. Baxter alternates his club role with that of Bafana Bafana.

The Tshwane outfit came from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Mazembe in their first round clash earlier this month, thanks to goals from Aubrey Modiba and Teboho Mokoena.

A win will give Matsatsantsa a great chance of qualifying for the quarterfinals.

"The game [against Mazembe] is the perfect preparation to see how ready we are for the final. It's a big week for SuperSport. If we can beat these two giants of African football, then it will say a lot about where SuperSport is going.

"If we want to reach the quarterfinals, we have to beat them at home. We want to go all the way," said Williams yesterday.
