Gauteng boxing trainer Damien Durandt has heaped praise on his newly-crowned WBC Silver junior bantamweight Athenkosi Dumezweni.
The boxer from Mthatha won the title on unanimous points decision after outboxing equally competent Jonas Sultan of the Philippines at Orient Theatre in East London.
Dumezweni, who relinquished the SA title prior to facing Sultan in Xaba Promotions and Events tournament, dropped the tough-as-nails visitor twice en-route to a deserved points win.
Sultan, who boasts a win over recently crowned WBO Interim champion John Riel Casimero, dropped to five losses in 20 fights. Casimero is in line to face fully fledged WBO junior bantamweight holder Zolani "Last Born" Tete.
