Koos "The Great Last Warrior" Sibiya has made a heartfelt plea to Boxing South Africa (BSA) to assign three judges from neutral provinces to review his 12-rounder with Phila Mpontshana which took place at Orient Theatre two weeks ago.
Sibiya is adamant the three judges from East London did Mpontshana a favour by declaring him the winner. The scorecards read 116-113; 115-114 and 115-113.
The local boxer from Mdantsane retained the SA junior lightweight belt with undeserved unanimous points decision.
What Sibiya has requested from the authorities has happened before, and it can still be done even now.
In the event all three review judges score the fight in favour of Sibiya, BSA must then order a rematch within 90 days. The promoter would then decide when to stage the fight through purse bids.
More than 2000 fans booed the verdict.
The noise grew louder when Mpontshana took the microphone from the ring announcer to try and address the fans.
The staunch fans began shouting "the new" from round nine when it became apparent that the title had slipped out of the champion's hands.
Mpontshana missed widely with most of his power blows, while Sibiya was the aggressor.
Sibiya said: "I am so unhappy. I trained very hard, despite injuries."
"Mpontshana knows deep in his heart that he lost the fight. I so wish BSA could get people to review the fight. If Mpontshana won, why did his own people boo the decision?"
Bernie Pailman, Sibiya's trainer said:"The judges could have declare it a draw."
