KwaZulu-Natal promoter Zandile Malinga has rubbished rumours that her tournament, which was scheduled for Saturday night in Durban, had to be postponed to Sunday because Maskandi group Indlamlemze broke the ring.

"That is not true. The ring bent in the middle from traditional dancing [indlamu]. The tournament was delayed for an hour while the ring was fixed," explained Malinga of Starline Promotions, yesterday.

Malinga defended Indlamlemze saying they were simply doing their job. "It was awesome entertainment. I am still going to feature them in future," she said.

The promoter added that she had planned a three-provincial championship tournament at Olive Convention Centre.

"But those bouts were rejected by Boxing SA because none of the boxers were eligible to fight for titles," she said.

"We ended up doing a development tournament which, in a way, was good because it helped young boys to build up a support base."

She said the eight-rounder between Siphiwesakhe Kunene of Ladysmith and Trinity Mhlongo from Mandeni was the bout of the night.
