Ryno "Lion" Liebenberg has officially vacated the SA light heavyweight title because he has grown tired of waiting for challengers.

"There is no logic in holding on to the title that I cannot get to defend," said Liebenberg, who has not made a single defence since winning the title in 2005.

"There are contenders in that weight division but none of them has put [in] a challenge. That is why I have finally vacated it."

Liebenberg - who also held multiple IBO and WBC light heavyweight belts - revealed that he was moving down to the super middleweight division.

He made his debut in the weight class recently, outpointing Patrick "The Panther" Mukala over 10 rounds at Emperors Palace.

How did he feel against the SA-based Congolese who has knocked out eight of his nine victims?

"If Patrick is the hard puncher at super middleweights, then I will be a monster," Liebenberg quipped.

"I wanted to gauge myself in that weight division and see if I am comfortable there. I felt superb and I want to challenge Lee Dyer for the SA title.

"I don't have much time left in me for boxing," added the 33-year-old whose wife is expecting their second child.

Liebenberg has knocked out 12 of his 17 victims at light heavyweight but was also defeated five times.

The tough-as-nails boxer has fought against smart and durable opponents including Johnny Muller, Thomas Oosthuizen, Erik Skoglund, Enrico Koeling and Eleider Alavarez in the light heavyweight class.
