Silinga not ready for title fight, says trainer

Micky Castellan has confirmed that his fighter Justice Silinga will be out of action for a while afer being involved in a car accident.

Trainer Castellan has ruled out Silinga, from opposing Ruann Visser for a vacant South African heavyweight belt on June 16 at Turffontein.

"No, the fight is not on," said Castellan. "Justice needs a warm-up fight as he had a vehicle accident and injured his shoulder in December."

The SA heavyweight title was vacated by Osborne Machimana two weeks ago.

The legitimate contender to oppose top-rated Visser for the vacant title is number 2 contender, Marc Subramoney, and not the number 6 rated Silinga.

Despite the accident, it would be suicidal for Boxing SA's championship committee to approve him for a championship fight.

Last year Silinga caused a scare after being stopped in the third round by Kizito Ruhamya in Rosettenville.

Silinga collapsed in the dressing room, and Dr Steven Selepe and two paramedics had to revive him. Selepe said the boxer suffered from dehydration. The temperatures on that day were 34°C.

Selepe, Castellan and his assistant Kenny Mabunda, as well as the boxer's manager Kathy Defreitas, did all they could to revive Silinga, who took over 30 minutes to regain his strength.
