Veteran champion out to teach young challenger lesson

Parents are required to instil discipline to their children when they go astray, warns veteran boxer Bongani "Dancing Shoes" Mahlangu.

The 38-year-old father of three boys - one a 16-year-old boxer - was reacting to a daring challenge by Ludumo Lamati.

Mahlangu said the 24-year-old boxer from Mdantsane, East London, has promised to send him straight into retirement when they meet for Mahlangu's SA junior featherweight belt at Orient Theatre, also in East London, on April 28.

Mahlangu has stopped 10 of his 20 victims within the distance and some of them are Lamati's homeboys Siviwe Hasheni, Mfusi Maxhayi and Bonakele Bikitsha. Lamati is yet to taste defeat after 10 wins and a draw.

"It will not be nice to beat up my 'son' but I have no choice because he has been going around promising to put me down on my backside," said Mahlangu from Boipatong in the Vaal.

"I won't go hard on him but just to teach him respect. These boys must know that I intend to do exactly what Mzonke Fana is doing, teaching youngsters basics."

Fana, 43, reigns supreme as the national lightweight champion

Mahlangu won the title from Hasheni and defended it against Maxhayi and Bikitsha.

He later defeated Toto Helebe from the Western Cape for the WBO International before capturing the IBF International strap after defeating Unathi Gqokoma in August.

"I am going back in East London to put fans under more pains," warned Mahlangu.
