Intrepid ABU welterweight champion Thulani "Tulz" Mbenge has warned that no local boxer in his weight division will beat him.
The 25-year-old from Mdantsane says he will demonstrate that by first dethroning SA welterweight champion Shaun Ness on April 23. The fight will headline Golden Gloves's Show Stopper bill at Emperors Palace.
"Bring any South African boxer in the welterweight division and they will all fall [by the] wayside," warned Mbenge, who is trained in Johannesburg by Sean Smith.
"I will first outbox Shaun before power takes over and he will then get knocked clean out. They say he is strong, he is tough and he is like this and that. Maybe that is true... but not against me. People look at my professional record and make assumptions that I have no experience. What about my amateur fights?"
The 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist fought 121 times - winning 93 - before turning pro in 2015.
Mbenge last fought in the professional ring in February when he pulverised Ntuthuko Memela over three rounds.
"Boxing is my way of life not just a sport," said Mbenge. "I was this young boy growing up in the township, surrounded by social issues. But boxing took me out of those challenges like crime and I am a better person now."
