Local heavyweight hopeful Ruann "The Giant King" Visser has tipped WBC heavyweight champion Deontay "The Bronze Bomber" Wilder from the US to retain his belt tomorrow night.

The hard hitting 31-year-old champion from Alabama - who has flattened all but one of his 37 opponents - will host his lesser known WBC No 8 contender Gerald "El Gallo Negro" Washington from California at Legacy Arena in Alabama.

Washington, 34, has blasted 12 of his 18 foes.

Wilder, the 2008 Olympic bronze medallist, will bid for the fifth defence of the belt he won from Bermaine "B Ware" Stiverne two years ago.

Visser, from Meyerton in the south of Johannesburg, said Washington has not fought opponents of Wilder's calibre.

"This will be a very difficult fight for Gerald. I think Deontay will do it in five rounds," predicted Visser, who is currently rated No 1 locally.

He described the fight as a recovery bout for Wilder, following an injury to his hand after stopping Chris Arreola in eight rounds in July.

Wilder underwent an operation and has not fought since.

Visser, meanwhile, is under the guidance of accomplished American trainer James Ali Bashir and former SA Olympic heavyweight fighter Soon Botes. Bashir lives with Visser in Meyerton.

The 65-year-old trainer guided Ukrainian former Olympian Aleksandr Usyk to the WBO cruiserweight belt against Thabiso Mchunu in the US in December.
