Dauntless fighter Ryno "The Lion" Liebenberg is uncertain if he still wants to continue as a pugilist or retire and hone the skills of aspirant fighters.

The reigning SA light heavyweight champion was reacting to his points loss over 10 rounds to German Enrico Koelling at Emperors Palace last weekend.

Their bout - a rematch following Koelling's debatable points win for the marginal WBA Intercontinental belt in Germany in October last year - featured in Golden Gloves's Thunder and Lightning bill.

The 32-year-old warrior from Krugersdorp said: "I must sit down and plan my future regarding boxing. I must think hard and long. Either I become a trainer or come down the weight division. It is the decision that I have to make.

"My family supports me but you also don't want to quit when there is still that desire to fight."

Liebenberg made his professional debut in 2010.

Regarding his close points loss to Koelling, 26, the straight-talking boxer who is trained by Colin Nathan said: "It is not the end of the world. I fought and won our first fight in Germany but I did not get the decision. We met last week and it was a close fight.

"It is what it is."

Liebenberg - a former IBO All Africa and Intercontinental, WBC International and WBC Silver titlist - is a valiant boxer who has never lost to average opponents.

Four of his five conquerors are yet to lose their bouts.

They are Canada-based Columbian Eleider "Storm" Alvarez (22-0), Boksburg-based Thomas "Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen (28-0) and Swede Erik Skoglund (26-0).

Alvarez is rated No 1 by the WBC while Oosthuizen is placed in 14th spot by the WBA.

Skoglund is rated No 15 by the WBA, third by the IBF and fifth by the WBO.

When Liebenberg suffered the controversial points loss to Koelling in Germany last year, Koelling had one loss against 22 wins.

Koelling occupies the No 10 spot in the WBA rankings and is ranked eighth by the WBO.

l Promoter Rodney Berman says he will get a better idea of just how bright Simpiwe "Chain Reaction" Konkco can shine when he defends his IBO mini flyweight title against Filipino Melvin Jerusalem at Emperors Palace on May 23.

Konkco has 17 wins and five losses while Jerusalem has 11 wins from 12 fights.

Konkco is rated in the top 15 by the IBF and WBA.
