The rich history of SA boxing was rewritten on Friday night when Azinga "Golden Boy" Fuzile - who was involved in only his fifth professional bout - won the SA title from Mabhuti "Macman" Sinyabi at the Orient Theatre in East London.

Fuzile, 20, dethoned the eight-year record previously held by Thabiso "The Rock" Mchunu who won the national title in his fourth fight against veteran Patrick Madzinga for the SA light heavyweight belt in 2008.

Madzinga was fighting his 23rd fight.

Interestingly Mchunu, like Fuzile, is a left-hander who achieved that feat when he was 19.

Fuzile - a former top amateur from Duncan Village who is trained by Mzamo Njekanye - toyed with Sinyabi and dropped him out the ropes in round four.

Sinyabi, 30, was pushed back into the ring by his fans.

Fuzile continued punishing him with few but well-executed blows until he dropped Sinyabi twice in round 12, putting the matter beyond any doubt. Scores read 117-110, 118-109 and 117-109.

Sinyabi is an accomplished former SA junior featherweight, IBO International featherweight and current IBO Intercontinental champion.

And with the loss on Friday, the deposed champion from Mdantsane suffered his fifth defeat against 29 wins with 20 knockouts.

In another national title fight, Thembelani Nxoshe stopped Mfundo Gwayana in the sixth round for the vacant SA flyweight belt while Sinethemba Bam won the IBF Youth junior featherweight strap after outpointing Phila Gola over 10 rounds.

The tournament was staged by Xaba Promotions and Events.

l In Germany Ryno "The Lion" Liebenberg suffered a split points loss to WBA Intercontinental light heavyweight holder Enrico Koelling.
