The president of the Schools Football Association of South Africa (Sasfa)‚ Mandla ‘Shoes’ Mazibuko‚ has accused Safa of luring two of his executive members under false pretences to a meeting launching a new schools’ body last week.

Sasfa called a press conference on the East Rand on Wednesday in response to the SA Football Association having formed a Schools Football Interim Committee tasked with establishing a united schools football ruling body.

The Safa committee‚ formed with the backing of the national departments of Sport and Recreation and of Basic Education‚ includes suspended Sasfa general secretary Steve Phila and two Sasfa executive members‚ Dickson Moleka and Innocent Sirovha.

Mazibuko alleged that two other Sasfa executive members had been lured to Safa’s announcement on Friday under false pretences.

“They have since written to us confirming that they were misled into attending a meeting with the ministers of Sports and Recreation and of Basic Education‚” the Sasfa president said on Wednesday.

“To their surprise‚ they were shocked‚ pictures were taken‚ and they were paraded as forming part of that (Safa’s) structure.

“What a propaganda‚ what a pity.

"We want to put it on record that those members would not be disciplined because they have clarified their position – they will continue.”

Asked if he knew who was responsible for allegedly misleading the executive members‚ Mazibuko replied: “The three people who appear in the picture with the president of Safa (Danny Jordaan) are the people who orchestrated the whole thing.

"The two vice presidents and the suspended general secretary (Moleka‚ Sirovha and Phila).

“They were the ones calling people‚ telling them all the information. That is according to our members who have made representation.”

Sasfa and Safa have been at loggerheads over the running of schools’ football since Safa took a resolution to dissolve the schools’ body in March 2015.

That resolution was overturned in arbitration‚ which Safa have taken on appeal to the High Court.

Phila‚ the spokesman of Safa’s interim ad-hoc committee tasked with selling the idea of forming a unitary schools’ football body as a means to resolving the contentious issue‚ denied Sasfa members were misled into attending Friday’s presentation.

“We know people who came to the press conference last week Friday were invited for information – to inform them and do a presentation to them that this is what we want to start. And we do not doubt their bona fides‚” Phila said.

“When the invitation went out‚ they were invited to come and listen to the presentation on what we had agreed with the minister (of sport‚ Nxesi).

“They listened to it. Afterwards‚ we took a team picture. And that went out on social media. Nobody was coerced to be in the picture.”
