Angola recall former Manchester United striker for clash against Bafana in East London

Angola have recalled former Manchester United striker Manucho for their clash with Bafana Bafana in East London next week while Guinea Bissau will be bringing the bulk of their squad from the recent African Nations Cup finals for Saturday’s friendly international against South Africa in Durban.

There is only one new player on the list for Djurtus (wild dogs) of Guinea Bissau‚ who enjoyed fairytale qualification for the 2017 Nations Cup tournament in Gabon and then won more admirers with their draw with the hosts in the opening game in Libreville in January.

They have dropped five players from that 23-man squad‚ including former captain Bucundji Ca‚ who did not play any of their three games in Gabon‚ where they ultimately finished bottom of Group A.

First-choice goalkeeper Jonas Mendy is a noticeable absentee along with French-born striker Frederick Mendy‚ who plays his club football in South Korea.

There is a first call-up for 20-year-old Sori Mane‚ who is from Olhanense in the Portuguese second division.

The Guineas Bissau squad is gathering in Portugal on Tuesday before flying to South Africa.

Angola‚ who first meet Mozambique at the weekend before crossing the border into South Africa‚ have Manucho back for the first time in three years in their 21-man squad‚ the first to be picked by new coach Beto Bianchi.

The 34-year-old Manucho‚ who now plays for Rayo Vallecano in the second tier of Spanish league football‚ moved to Old Trafford after a sparkling showing at the 2008 Nations Cup finals in Ghana.

But he only played one game for the Red Devils before going to Greece and Hull City on loan.

He had a long standing fall out with the Angolan Football Federation that now looks to have been resolved.

Angola are without the injured trio of Gelson Dala from Sporting Lisbon‚ Djalma Campos of Greek club PAOK Salonika and first-choice goalkeeper Dominique.
