Bongani Magasela’s name is synonymous with boxing and his accolade at the Boxing South Africa (BSA) awards in Durban on Friday did not come as a surprise.

The veteran fistic sport writer walked away with BSA’s Chairwoman’s Award at the glittering event held at the Chief Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.

Magasela, who has received awards before thanks to his excellent writing and vast knowledge of boxing, got the award together with former six-time world champion Cassius "Shy Guy" Baloyi and internationally-renowned female promoter Mbali "Don Queen" Zantsi.

“This award does no only belong to me but to the rest of my colleagues at Sowetan and I'm grateful for another recognition,” said an elated Magasela on Saturday. – Sowetan
