Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says he is focused on the job at hand and not those doubting his abilities.

Amakhosi are on a four-match winning streak, but some have argued that the results have come against struggling teams.

Chiefs have beaten Ajax Cape Town, Free State Stars, Maritzburg United and Highlands Park, and the argument could be that Chiefs haven't been truly tested yet.

Komphela has admitted that it is "painful" to be doubted - something he went through last season as Amakhosi finished trophyless.

"There are certain books that I just go and read, and those books will define what you are going through. The minute that definition is given, you get the comfort and say, 'by the way, I did not expect any less'. Sometimes it is painful, but it's a way of making you grow as a person," Komphela said.

He is currently reading the The Making of A Slave by Willie Lynch.

"And under such, you try to say less and only request for more time and more strength that you should do more. Up until that time, the question marks shall forever remain. Better to focus on the job at hand, so the response will be on the field," he said.

The Kroonstad-born mentor was then asked about goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune's CAF Player of the Year nomination and he took the opportunity to expand on his point about the Doubting Thomases.

"There is a stage where we and Itu were having a discussion that if you are good you got to face the storms. The speed at which you travel will equal the pressure of the wind you face. It is a fact of life."
