Pirates players determined to end trophy drought in the Bucs' 80th anniversary

Orlando Pirates’ worst nightmare would be to go another season without a trophy in their 80th anniversary‚ says the Buccaneers’ star playmaker Oupa Manyisa.

Bafana Bafana star Manyisa will make his return to competitive football when the Buccaneers go in search of their first trophy in 2016-17 with their MTN8 quarterfinal against Bidvest Wits at Bidvest Stadium on Saturday‚ August 26.

Manyisa‚ who spent eight months on the sidelines nursing a fractured ankle‚ said Pirates’ players have talked among each other ahead of the coming season about how important it will be to win a trophy in the year when the club turns 80.

“It’s good to be playing football again. I’m getting there slowly but surely‚ because we’ve been working hard in camp‚” Manyisa‚ a man of notoriously few words‚ said.

The Bafana Bafana midfielder continued: “The new coach [Muhsin Ertugral] is alright. We are going into this MTN8 with the aim of doing well and winning a trophy.

“I would say I’m 90% fit right now. I’m ready mentally because I know I’ve been out for eight months‚ and now it’s my time to come back and do the job for the team.

“We can expect good football from Pirates this season – entertaining football with results combined.

“As a team we’ve sat down and said we have to bring something to the side this season in terms of trophies. It’s important because it’s our 80th anniversary.

“It means a lot to us‚ and to me personally. As you know‚ when you’re a Pirates player you have to trade history.”

Manyisa got his first run-out in Bucs colours on his return from injury in the pre-season Carling Black Label Cup match at FNB Stadium on July 30‚ won 2-0 by Kaizer Chiefs. — TMG Digital
