South Africa's Anaso Jobodwana, Tlotliso Leotlela and Clarence Munyai all failed to reach the semi-finals of the men's 200m at the Rio Olympic Games.

The trio struggled to keep up with the sizzling pace set under the hot Rio sun at the Olympic Stadium on Tuesday.

Jobodwana, South Africa's biggest hope after his bronze in the 2015 World Championships, would clock the fastest time of the three, a 20.53, not enough to earn a fastest loser placing.

Leotlela would stop the clock at 20.59 while Munyai earned a 20.66.

Canada's Andre De Grasse was fastest with 20.09, while sprint King Usain Bolt and rival Justin Gatlin cantered across the line to win their heats and earn a place in the semi-finals, which take place on Thursday.
