Phillip Ndou's unruly behaviour, which saw him assault boxing officials during a weigh-in ceremony last Friday, could land the former SA champion in jail.
Boxing SA Gauteng manager Archie Nyingwa, referees Thabo Spampool and Ben Ncapayi told Sowetan yesterday that they have opened a case of assault at Thohoyandou police station against the 39-year-old one-time great.
Ndou lived up to his moniker "Time Bomb" when he exploded at Thohoyandou Town Hall in Limpopo and allegedly beat up Nyingwa, Spampool and Ncapayi with a knobkerrie, accusing them of ruining his life by revoking his licence.
The trio were in Thohoyandou to conduct the weigh-in for a tournament staged by Mulenzhe World Sports Promotions at the same hall on Saturday evening.

"I was told on our arrival that Phillip had been at the hall twice already looking for BSA representatives," said Nyingwa. "He later came carrying a knobkerrie and found us ready to conduct the weigh-in. He started shouting and swearing at me that we, BSA, have ruined his life by revoking his licence.
"He said he was going to beat me up, and that there was nothing BSA would do to him because he was no longer a licensee.
"He then started beating me up as he had promised and I fell from a chair. Thabo and Ben tried to intervene and they too got beaten. He bit Thabo's thumb and also bit Ben on his shoulder."
Nyingwa said he then reported the incident to BSA chairwoman Muditambi Ravele, who advised then to open a case of assault against Ndou.
"We did just that," confirmed Nyingwa, with the police also confirming such.
Time Bomb ready to explode
According to Ndou's trainer Mpho Khorombi and the boxer's manager, Promise Moyo, he was to feature in that tournament against Chimwemwe Chiotcha from Malawi in a non-title junior middleweight bout.
However, BSA revoked Ndou's licence following a recommendation by two physicians who worked on the night when the boxer was stopped by Ntuthuko Memela within the distance in February.
Nyingwa said BSA sent a letter to Moyo and copied Nyingwa as they informed them about the decision to revoke Ndou's licence.
Ndou's anger seems misdirected as Nyingwa is just a BSA service provider, and has no say in the issuing or revoking of licenses. Only BSA has the power to do that.
Moyo could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Ravele said: "If Phillip had a problem, he should have addressed it with BSA and not a service provider.
"Beating up people is just out of line and we will deal with this issue accordingly."
Khorombi said: "I was called to come and intervene because Ndou was beating Archie with a knobkerrie. I quickly drove there and spoke to Phillip and told him to leave.
"I took Archie, Thabo and Ben to a medical doctor and I paid about R1200 for all them to be helped.
"They went to the police station to open a case."
Several attempts were made to contact Ndou but were all unsuccessful.
