Mzonke "The Rose of Khayelitsha" Fana has said there was nothing special in his preparations for the WBO lightweight championship against holder Terry "Turbo" Flanagan, which takes place at the Ice Arena Wales, Cardiff, in the UK tomorrow (10.50pm SA time , live on SuperSport7).

Fana and Flanagan will share the ring with Cuban star Guillermo Rigondeaux, who will defend his WBA Super junior featherweight belt against James Dickens.

Fana, 42, is a former two-time IBF junior lightweight champion and current SA lightweight holder from Western Cape.

"I am feeling good and strong for the fight. I prepared for this fight like any other fight. The only difference is that I will be fighting against a southpaw, So I need to adjust to that style," Fana told Sowetan from Cardiff yesterday.

"I am going to box Terry from behind the jab, which is what I do all the time. I must make him miss his big shots while making sure that I hit the target. That is the strategy, really - make him miss, counter punch."

Fana has more experience than Flanagan. He has boxed 398 rounds in 47 bouts with 38 wins since 1994. Some of Fana's victims include Malcolm Klassen and Cassius Baloyi.

Klassen, 34, is still going strong as a fighter, but 42-year- old Baloyi quit the sport in 2012.

Flanagan will bid for the third defence of the belt he won last year. The 27-year-old from Manchester has boxed 146 rounds and remains undefeated after 30 bouts, with 12 knockouts.

l New kid on the block, promoter Sandile Xaka of Supreme Boxing Promotions, says it's all systems go for his maiden tourney that will take place at Blairgowrie recreation centre in Randburg on Sunday. Action begins at 2pm.
