2015 South African Sport Awards nominees

The 2015 South African Sports Awards nomination announcement was held at SABC Radio Park on Tuesday morning in Johannesburg.

Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula highlighted that this year’s sports awards will have a panel of journalists who will vote for the ‘Sports Star of the Year’.

"We've made it our business in sport to celebrate people while they are still alive. To create a hall of fame of sport, to celebrate talent those who achieve and excel," Mbalula told SABC news.

"By being nominated you are already a winner you are being recognised for your sporting excellence.

The main award winner gets R130 000 and the nominee receives R15000.

All eyes will be on the highly contested category the Sportsman of the Year award Greg Minnaar, Chad le Clos and Wayde van Niekerk.

Mbalula says a total of R20 million has been budgeted for this years’ sports awards.

The awards ceremony will kickoff at 20 000 capacity Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein.

National Federation of the Year - Roller Sport, Cycling and Basketball

Sports Administrator of the year - Virginia Mabaso, Karen Losch and Tim Cornish

School Team of the Year - Oakdale Agricultural High School, St Johns College – Junior Men’s Pair and Hoerskool Waterkloof

Developing School Team of the Year - Iqhayiya Secondary School, Montshiwa Primary School and Phayizani Indoor Rowing Club

Indigenous Games Team of the Year - Limpopo Drie Stokkies Mens Team, Western Cape Iintonga Team and KZN Dibeke Team

Recreational Body of the Year - Isiqalo – Waves 4 Change, Diepsloot Mountain Bike Academy and Phayizani Indoor Rowing Club

Photographer of the Year - Gavin Barker, Veli Nhlapo and Motswari Mofokeng

Sports Journalist of the Year - Bareng-Batho Kortjaas, Daniel Mothowagae and Mbali Mokoko

Newcomer of the Year- Nokwanda Hlongwane, Jayde Andrew Julius and Kagiso Rabada

Team of the Year - SA Proteas Test Team - Cricket, Lightweight Women’s 2x - Rowing and Springbok Sevens - Rugby
