The 2015 South African Sports Awards nomination announcement was held at SABC Radio Park on Tuesday morning in Johannesburg.
Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula highlighted that this year’s sports awards will have a panel of journalists who will vote for the ‘Sports Star of the Year’.
"We've made it our business in sport to celebrate people while they are still alive. To create a hall of fame of sport, to celebrate talent those who achieve and excel," Mbalula told SABC news.
"By being nominated you are already a winner you are being recognised for your sporting excellence.
The main award winner gets R130 000 and the nominee receives R15000.
All eyes will be on the highly contested category the Sportsman of the Year award Greg Minnaar, Chad le Clos and Wayde van Niekerk.
Mbalula says a total of R20 million has been budgeted for this years’ sports awards.
The awards ceremony will kickoff at 20 000 capacity Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein.
