A look back at five memorable Soweto derbies in the Premier Soccer League era.

1999/2000: Kaizer Chiefs 2, Orlando Pirates 2

Siyabonga Nomvethe and Dennis Lota had a bit of a battle when it came to Soweto derby goals in 1999 and 2000. Nomvethe scored in the first minute and Lota responded a minute later with the equaliser in a frenetic start to the match. Phumlani Mkhize secured a point for Bucs with a strike 18 minutes from time.

2001/2002: Chiefs 0 Pirates 3

This one goes down as Pirates' biggest victory over Amakhosi in the PSL era. And it was inspired by two men who just loved terrorising the Amakhosi defence, the late Lesley Manyathela and midfielder Benedict Vilakazi. Vilakazi set up Manyathela for the opening goal and the lethal striker completed his brace before half-time. Vilakazi then completed the rout.

2007/2008: Pirates 2 Chiefs 2

This is where the battle between Senzo Meyiwa and Itumeleng Khune really began. Both goalkeepers conceded twice, Meyiwa getting beaten by the fastest derby goal to date, scored by Mabhuti Khenyeza after 19 seconds. Excellent Walaza, a rising star who faded, scored twice to give Pirates the lead, but Arthur Zwane's goal denied Pirates a win.

2010/2011: Pirates 1 Chiefs 3

The brilliance of Zimbabwean striker Knowledge Musona was the main difference here as he scored twice, while Ezenwa Otorugo netted a consolation for Bucs.

2011/2012: Pirates 3 Chiefs 2

It was the Benni McCarthy show at FNB Stadium. The Bafana Bafana all-time top scorer scored a brace and midfielder Andile Jali added another. Goals from Siphiwe Tshabalala and Lehlohonolo Majoro were not enough to inspire a Chiefs comeback.
