Bafana Bafana's central America tour not only forced the cancellation of a number of PSL matches at the weekend, but also meant a number of European-based South Africans had to settle for a place on the bench on their return to club action.
The long travel to Costa Rica and Honduras meant many players only arrived back in Europe late in the week and were left on the sidelines by their coaches.
Bafana winger Ayanda Patosi grabbed his third goal of the season but it proved just a consolation as his Lokeren side slipped into the relegation zone with a 2-1 loss at home to OH Leuven.
Patosi had been introduced as a half-time substitute.
Mandla Masango came on for Danish side Randers in injury time of their 2-1 away loss to Midtjylland. The result now means Randers trail league leaders Midtjylland by eight points.
Anele Ngcongca was an unused substitute for French Ligue 1 strugglers Troyes as they lost 3-0 at Nantes and sit second bottom in the division.
Tokelo Rantie, who pulled out of national team duty through injury, was not in the match-day squad for Bournemouth as they were humbled 5-1 by Manchester City in the English Premier League, while Steven Pienaar was again missing for Everton as they lost 3-0 to Manchester United.
Kagisho Dikgacoi did start for Cardiff City though as they played to a 0-0 draw at Preston North End in the Championship.
