Eagles striker Mphela on massive pay cut

Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs striker Katlego Mphela admits his decision to join NFD side Royal Eagles was not about money.

The 31 year-old striker says his current salary is not even half of what he was getting in the PSL.

Before joining Amakhosi, Mphela was regarded as one of the highest paid player at Sundowns managing 116 appearances and scoring 48 goals in total.

Mphela confirmed that he received offers from abroad but due to his age he opted to play locally.

"It was not about the money and I don't think I'm earning even half of what I was earning in the PSL," Mphela told KickOff.

"To be honest, I had offers from elsewhere but I thought at my age, I didn't want to go abroad.

"For me, it was not about money but the ambition and to get the club where they want to be, and be part of the history.

"Also, coming here I wasn't sure about what to expect until I spoke to the chairman, and he told me what he wants to do and achieve and it made me decide to come here."

Mphela only managed 15 games for Chiefs and scored three goals.
