MOROKA Swallows begin life in the National First Division next month without a number of their seasoned campaigners whom they have released as part of their rebuilding process for the new campaign.

The list of the affected players include the likes of goalkeeper Greg Etafia and defenders Shere Lekgothoane, Ashraf Hendricks and Larry Cohen, and midfielder Tshwarelo Bereng.

The developments were confirmed by Swallows director Sipho Xulu yesterday.

Mpumalanga Black Aces are believed to be keen to sign Hendricks. Swallows, who were relegated from the elite league for the first time in 68 years, earlier lost key players after Vuyisile Wana and Lantshene Phalane joined Bloemfontein Celtic.

Sipho Mngomezulu was snapped up by Premier Soccer League's comeback boys Jomo Cosmos, while Lucky Baloyi and Philani Cele have renewed ties with Absa Premiership champions Kaizer Chiefs after their loan spells expired in Dobsonville.

Lerato Chabangu has teamed up with Bidvest Wits.

Though some of their senior players are currently training with the team, there are no guarantees they will commit themselves to Swallows.

The players are Lefa Tsutsulupa, Siyabonga Nomvethe, Tsietsi Mahoa, Mthokozisi Yende and Sandile Sibande.

Dikgang Mabalane is the only senior player who will fly with the Birds in the NFD next season after penning a one-season contract extension. "We are happy that we have retained Mabalane and we do everything possible to hold on to Nomvethe," said Xulu.

"We are aware that a number of teams in the PSL are after his services but we are not throwing in the towel yet. We will do everything we can to keep him."

There are also few players who are trying their luck at Swallows.

They include goalkeeper Aubrey Mathibe from AmaZulu, Aleni Lebyane, Lebo Ramolesa and Hector Zulu, according to Xulu.

"We are going to the NFD to fight and we are positive that our coaches Ian Gorowa and Goodman Mazibuko will assemble a team that will conquer the first division next season. We belong in the PSL," he told Sowetan.
