Nyundu ‘looking for better money and a signing-on fee

Roggert Nyundu‚ the player who earns R5000 a month at Polokwane City‚ dreams of playing alongside former PSL footballer of the season Sibusiso Vilakazi at Bidvest Wits.

Nyundu‚ who sent shockwaves when his meagre salary became public a few days ago‚ is desperate for a move away from City to give his unemployed wife and two children a better life.

The 27-year-old is currently training with National First Division club Black Leopards and he revealed that he was given a place to stay by former City midfielder Benson Mhlongo last season because he could not afford a place of his own.

He is now staying with Leopards captain Harry Nyirenda while his agent Mandla Mthembu works to find him another club. The former Free State Stars striker still has one year left on his contract with City but is hopeful he’ll be set free to join one of the clubs interested in his services.

“I want to play for Wits. That is my dream. I know I can have a good combination with Sibusiso Vilakazi because he is similar to Siphelele Ntshangase. Ntshangase and I combined very well at Leopards‚ so I believe I can form a good partnership with Vilakazi‚” he said.

“So far‚ Bloemfontein Celtic‚ Wits‚ AmaZulu‚ Royal Eagles and Highlands Park have shown an interest in me. We will see how things go. My wife is not working‚ that’s why I need a big move. I want to make her happy because she encourages me. If someone stands in my way I will hate him for the rest of my life‚” the striker said.

Nyundu is not too keen to play for Leopards in the First Division‚ despite the club’s interest in him.

“I have explained to the chairman at Leopards (David Thidiela) that I want to go to the PSL and I think he understands. There is no money in the NFD. I am looking for better money and a signing-on fee. That’s what I need. If I go back to the NFD then nothing will change.”

Nyundu is confident he will not get taken for a ride again should he find another club in the PSL.

“At City they just gave me a contract without telling me how much I am going to earn. They did not ask us how much I want. They did not even negotiate. I am wiser now and it will not happen again.”

He believes he can win the top-scorer award in the PSL.

“Once I get a chance‚ I am going to be the leading goalscorer. I have good technique. Strikers in the PSL are not doing enough.”
