Re-appointed Chippa United coach Roger Sikhakhane says he is delighted to be back at the helm of the team in the Premier Soccer League and already hard at work in pre-season preparation.
Sikhakhane was appointed at the weekend to again take over the club that he led to the PSL three years ago and has since had two different spells in charge of.
“All is going well. We are working hard‚” he said on Wednesday. “I’m happy to be back at the club and to be back also in the PSL.”
Chippa have moved to Cape Town for a two-week training camp and have fixed a first warm-up match for Saturday against Cape Town All Stars. They hope to have a scrummage against Ajax Cape town or Bidvest Wits‚ who will be in Stellenbosch‚ next Wednesday.
“We are still setting up the second game but two practice matches will get us off to a good start.”
Sikhakhane was Chippa’s coach when they won promotion in 2012 but was relegated to a sideline role at the club when Manqoba Mngqithi was appointed for Chippa’s first season in the top flight.
After just two games‚ Mngqithi departed to be briefly replaced by assistant Julius Dube and then Sikhakhane had five games in charge but was fired after three successive defeats and replaced by Farouk Abrahams‚ then Wilfred Mugeyi and Mark Harrison.
When Chippa came back up again this time last year as National First Division‚ Kosta Papic took over but departed quickly to be followed by Sikhakhane.
But in December last year he was replaced by Ernst Middendorp‚ after whom a further two coaches followed.
Chippa barely survived the drop last season but have strengthened their squad for this season with the loaning of Chris Matombo and Zitha Macheke from Kaizer Chiefs.
