Roger Sikhakhane is back as Chippa United coach for the umpteenth time, having signed a one-year contract, his manager Abbie Rasimphi confirmed yesterday.
Sikhakhane was furious earlier this year when club chairman Chippa Mpengesi replaced him with German coach Ernst Middendorp despite a fairly good run of results in the first half of the season, as he claimed he was "sabotaged".
But after a few months at Thanda Royal Zulu in the National First Division, where he narrowly missed out on the play-offs as the club finished in fourth place, Sikhakhane is back at a club he just can't seem to let go of despite the way he has been treated in the past.
"Yes he is back at the club," Rasimphi said. "In any environment there will always be issues and differences that need to be sorted out. It just needs people to sit down and talk things through.
"I can tell you that everything is in order and Roger is happy to return to the club. He has signed a one-season contract and we will see how it goes."
Hardly any coach at Chippa sees out their contract and Sikhakhane goes back knowing he may not even get half the season to prove himself.
"People work in different ways. In football promises are made, but they are not always kept," said Rasimphi in reference to how the club has fired coaches in the past.
Though Chippa have never kept their previous promises of giving a coach time to settle and build a squad, spokesman Lukhanyo Mzinzi says they will not act hastily this time round.
" We have robustly reflected on many issues. We vow to make sure he is supported and he gets everything he needs. We know that he is an ambitious coach. We have said to him we want to stay in the top flight again," Mzinzi said.
