Tefu Mashamaite added to his three PSL awards the Kaizer Chiefs player of the season prize at last night's ceremony for the Soweto giants' star performers of the 2014-2015 season in Midrand.

Unlike with the PSL awards on Sunday, when Mashamaite won player, player's player and defender of the season awards, the defender did not make a clean sweep of Chiefs' individual trophies.

Mashamaite added a further R160000 to the R450000 he racked up on Sunday. The defender won R100000 for player of the season, R50000 for being voted the fans' player of the season, and R10000 for being the side's best player in May.

He edged out his fellow nominees, centre-back partner Mulomowandau Mathoho and left-back Tsepo Masilela, for player of the season. The three were part of a defence that conceded a miserly 14 goals in winning the Absa Premiership.

Chiefs also won the MTN8, for a second league and cup double in three years.

The former Bidvest Wits centre-back, who transformed himself into an ever-present in central defence last season ahead of Mathoho and Morgan Gould, was in almost impassable form in coach Stuart Baxter's defence this season and played every minute of the Chiefs campaign.

His partnership with Mathoho was perhaps the key aspect of Amakhosi's dominant league title win - setting new PSL records of 69 points and a winning margin of 12 points.

Masilela, the respected ex-Bafana Bafana defender who turned out for Getafe in La Liga, was awarded the coveted player's player of the season prize, earning himself R50000.

Most improved player of the season (R25000) was winger Mandla Masango, who transformed himself from being almost loaned out at the start of the campaign into one of Chiefs' main scorers and goal-providers.

The other nominees were fellow winger George Lebese and goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo, who impressed coming into the starting line-up after a long-term injury to Itumeleng Khune in September.

Masango earned a further R25000 for being Amakhosi's top scorer. Midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane won the same amount for scoring Chiefs' goal of the season, ahead of nominees Masango, Bernard Parker and Lebese.

Mathoho, who also had an outstanding season in defence and has been unfortunate not to have converted more of his numerous nominations into prizes both for the PSL and his club, did at least win a consolation fair play award (R20000).

Monthly awards (each R10000) were won by (from August to April) Masango, Letsholonyane, Masilela, Lebese, Mathoho, Mashamaite, Mathoho and Lebese.
