No conflict of interest for Sidinile - IBO

There is nothing prohibiting a boxing promoter being appointed International Boxing Organisation (IBO) fight commissioner, IBO president Edward Levine has explained in response to questions of a potential conflict of interest for new Africa commissioner Andile Sidinile.

There were concerns in the boxing fraternity because Sidinile, from Eastern Cape, is an active promoter.

The former amateur boxer, board member of Boxing SA and current general secretary of the Eastern Cape Promoters Association (ECPA) trades under the banner of Sijuta Promotions.

Speaking to Sowetan yesterday from Florida in the US, Levine said: "To avoid any conflict of interest, Sidinile will not be assigned to any tournament in which any of his fighters are participating. Obviously, if any of his fighters are fighting for an IBO title, a different commissioner will be assigned.

"If there is even a hint of possible conflict, we will not assign Sidinile to a tournament. We have discussed this with him and he is in total agreement."

Sidinile said: "I won't be involved if any of my boxers are involved in an IBO-sanctioned bout. I will also no longer be available to serve as a member of the ECPA when elections take place next month."

Levine explained that Sidinile was recommended to the IBO's board of directors some weeks ago and after a diligent review of his background and recommendations, he was elected unanimously last week. He takes over from Len Hunt, who has not been well since he had a stomach operation.
