Super Eagles throw squad surprise for SA

Nigeria will have some new faces in their squad when they meet South Africa at Mbombela Stadium next weekend as their caretaker coach Daniel Amokachi rang the changes in the wake of their elimination in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Nigeria play Bolivia at home next Thursday and then travel to Mbombela for their meeting with Shakes Mashaba's side on Sunday.

The 28-man squad features just seven players who were in the squad at the World Cup in Brazil less than a year ago, such has been the dramatic transformation of the team.

John Obi Mikel of Chelsea is injured but the dropping of Emmanuel Emenike, the former FC Cape Town and Mpumalanga Black Aces striker now at Fenerbahce in Turkey, is a surprise.

There are 18 foreign-based players among the new-look squad, including a return for Brown Ideye, who missed out on Brazil but was part of the Afcon-winning squad in South Africa in 2013.

Ideye has been in red hot form for West Bromwich Albion in the second half of the Premier League season in England after being ignored for virtually the entire first half of WBA's campaign,

Amokachi, who is an irregular television pundit on SuperSport, has taken over from his friend Stephen Keshi.

Amokachi's first game in charge was a friendly loss to Ivory Coast in Abu Dhabi in January with a team of home-based players.
