Patient Sundowns wait

While the focus has been on Kaizer Chiefs and their broken league streak, Mamelodi Sundowns have been compiling a 15-match unbeaten run that has seen them keep track of the log leaders.

Chiefs' gap of 10 points is still a big one but an uncomplicated and efficient Sundowns seem to be waiting for the inevitable slip.

In the meantime, they are remorselessly collecting points and letting the fates do their job.

They did just that on Tuesday night with a 1-0 win against AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Downs' coach Pitso Mosimane might not be a long distance athlete but he is well-versed in the art of pacing a league marathon to perfection.

Last season might be a footnote in history but it was a lesson in overhauling a team who thought their lead was unsurpassable.

Mosimane said he was running his own race and that his team knew there were tougher battles ahead.

"We have the experience for this and we have been on this route before," Mosimane said.

Continental duty will be keeping Chiefs and Sundowns busy and Mosimane reckons they performed a prison break against St Michel United in the Seychelles.

The island team and Bidvest Wits are the sides that are giving him slightly sleepless nights, and with this safari being Sundowns' first in a long time, Mosimane is wary of bowing out early in the tournament.

About the Clever Boys, he said: "Do not write Wits off because they are dark horses. They are keeping us on our toes. We keep moving them from second spot but they keep coming back.

"We know Gavin Hunt does not like to lose against Kaizer Chiefs and they are our next opponents."
