South Africa's hopes of qualifying for the knockout rounds of the Africa Cup of Nations were handed a welcome boost thanks to Ghana's last gasp 1-0 win over Algeria in their group C clash in Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea, on Friday evening.

The win, courtesy of inspirational skipper Asamoah Gyan's late strike, takes Ghana to three points, level with Algeria and Senegal.

A win for Bafana Bafana against Senegal later on Friday evening would mean all four teams are level on three points.

That would leave the group wide open heading into the final game of the round, where South Africa face Ghana and Algeria take on Senegal.

But first Shakes Mashaba and his team will need to navigate past Senegal.

A second defeat, however, would make Bafana's mission all the more difficult, following their disappointing 3-1 defeat to Algeria in their opening game.
