Bafana Bafana jumped ten places to 57th in the latest world rankings released by Fifa on Thursday.

Bafana amassed eight points after wins over Sudan and Congo, as well as draws against Nigeria and Congo, in their Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.

"This is good news. It shows we are doing something right especially in such a short space of time," Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba said in a statement.

"It is still early days though, there is a lot of work to be done and hopefully we will get even higher on the rankings.

"But I am happy there are some huge improvements. Now the challenge is to maintain the position and even better it."

The South Africans moved two places to 12th in the African standings.
