Masango revival attracts Rennes

AFTER eight years on the fringes at Kaizer Chiefs, Mandla Masango's patience could now earn him a contract in Europe, with French side Rennes said to be interested in his services.

Masango's agent Walter Mokoena disclosed that the club's director of football, Jean Luc Buisine, called him immediately after Bafana Bafana played Nigeria last month and told him he was keen to see him again in a Bafana shirt and when Chiefs play Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby on November 1.

"In fact, he has promised to call me before the Soweto derby."

Masango has indeed been impressive, scoring six goals from midfield and earning the Absa Premiership Player of the Month award for August.

Yet barely six months ago he was not a regular starter for Chiefs despite spending eight years at the club.

The club were even considering loaning him off to Moroka Swallows.

Rennes have apparently been watching him since he broke into the Chiefs first team because of Mokoena's connections in France, where he lived for five years.

If he does strike a deal with Rennes it will be a case of his patience paying off.

Mokoena, however, cautioned against getting too excited at this stage.

"He is still part of Chiefs and we must respect that. There is no pressure, although his contract at the club expires at the end of the season," said Mokoena.
