Sebola slams Myeni

FORMER Orlando Pirates striker Andries Sebola believes Sifiso Myeni is a small-club player who has not shown that he can cut it at the high-pressure club.

Myeni, who came on as a second-half substitute in Pirates' shock loss to Chippa United on Saturday - their second on the trot - looks desperately out of form.

The 26-year-old has been with the club for two years but his fluorescent attacking light that brought him interest from the country's biggest clubs and earned him five international caps has dimmed lately.

Questions are being asked of the Buccaneers following their failure to keep the levels of consistency shown by their hot rivals Kaizer Chiefs, who recorded their 11th straight win of the season in all competitions on the same day.

It is the reason they ceded the MTN8 trophy in Durban the weekend before and why they find themselves already 10 points behind Amakhosi in the Premiership.

"Myeni is not doing what he used to do when he was playing for Bidvest Wits," said Sebola.

"Maybe the injury he carried over when he joined Pirates affected his rhythm. I've only ever seen him perform well in one or two games but other than those rare occasions, to me he seems like a fringe player.

"He can make things happen when they are playing against small teams like Polokwane City but against big teams like Mamelodi Sundowns or Chiefs you'll never see him dominating.

"He needs a change, to possibly a team like Wits but away from Pirates. I don't see him doing the job he used to do at Bidvest Wits."

According to Sebola, strikers Lennox Bacela and Thamsanqa Gabuza are also on the ropes and should reconsider their futures with the club.

Neither has featured in coach Vladimir Vermezovic's plans so far this season.

Although the Serb prefers to start with a lone striker up front, Kermit Erasmus is the man chosen to lead the attack.

"Lehlohonolo Majoro is the most capable of playing up front with Kermit Erasmus, so I think Bacela and Gabuza should look to go out somewhere on loan during the January transfer window," he said.

Pirates next face City this Sunday in the opening round of the Telkom Knockout.
