THE rumour mill about Cavin Johnson's job security as SuperSport United coach will gain momentum after a second successive defeat.

And former Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund is reportedly ready to step in should the string of poor results continue at Matsatsantsa.

Johnson, who is still bullish about turning it around following the narrow 1-0 loss to Bidvest Wits in Atteridgeville at the weekend, said his concern was that he did not have "a striker on form".

Even when the side were dumped out of the MTN8 quarterfinals by Orlando Pirates last weekend, his forwards had a few chances that could have produced a different outcome.

"Bradley [Grobler] is not up to his best at the moment . Dino [Ndlovu] will come back soon, but he has been struggling with his fitness," said Johnson, adding that from where he was sitting, the penalty awarded to Wits looked soft.

S'thembiso Ngcobo converted the spot kick to give Gavin Hunt's men a win in their opening Absa Premiership encounter away from home.

"We pushed from the wings and fought hard like we know we can. Maybe we can have an advantage in our next game on Tuesday [against Chippa United] if we sort out the papers for Dove Wome, who likes to score goals," the coach said.

Johnson arrived at United in July last year and a lot was expected of him as Hunt's successor, but a sixth-place finish last season was unsatisfactory, and club chairman Khulu Sibiya has given him anultimatum, which Johnson agrees is fair.

Hunt, meanwhile, moaned again about his team's showing. "There was no improvement from the last game [MTN8 win on penalties against Celtic].

"This was worse," Hunt said.
