Second-tier Dutch club want Zimbabwean striker Knowledge Musona

KAIZER Chiefs face unexpected opposition for the services of Zimbabwean striker Knowledge Musona from Dutch club Roda JC Kerkarde, according to German soccer magazine Kicker.

The magazine reports that Roda JC have also expressed interest in doing a deal for Musona, who German club TSG Hoffenheim now want to sell rather than loan out as they did with Chiefs last season.

Musona, who turns 24 later this month, has started the last of a four-year contract with Hoffenheim, but the club no longer wants him.

They loaned him out after his first season in the Bundesliga to FC Augsburg and then Chiefs.

With just 12 months left on his contract before he becomes a free agent, Hoffenheim seek to sell him to at least get back a portion of the estimated R15-million they paid Chiefs for his services in 2011.

Chiefs would obviously rather loan him again because it is cheaper, but if Roda offer a fee, then the hand of the AmaKhosi might be forced.

Musona's own ambitions are also a factor because he has made it clear he wants to try his luck in Europe again.

But Roda were recently relegated from the top-flight in Germany, and just how attractive a proposition playing in the Dutch second division is for him remains to be seen.

It is perhaps a sign of Chiefs' confidence that they will get their man that they have included Musona in the voting for the team that the supporters select for next month's Carling Black Label Cup.
