FIGHT fans in East London will be spoiled for choice during this weekend's boxing bonanza at the Orient Theatre.
Action begins tonight at 7pm with two IBO intercontinental title fights staged by Sijuta Boxing Promotions.
Mzuvukile Magwaca and Luzuko Siyo will both take on fighters from the Philippines. Magwaca and Michael Enriquez will fight for the vacant flyweight title, while Siko and Macrea Gandionco will collide for the junior flyweight strap.
These four young boxers, who are all under 23, came face-to-face at the KK-Wajima Perfect Health Centre in Mdantsane, where their official weigh-in took place yesterday.
The ceremony was conducted by Johannesburg-based Len Hunt who is the representative of the IBO in Africa. It was the first time that a boxing weigh-in took place at this state-of-the-art fitness centre that is owned by Khaya Majeke and Zola Dunywa.
Majeke was delighted that their establishment hosted a boxing weigh-in.
Promoter Andile Sdinile explained that the cloudy conditions actually prompted him to use Majeke's facility so that any competitor who was overweight could use the gym to shed those extra kilograms.
Fortunately they were all within the required weight limits.
Tomorrow night Mamali Promotions of Siphatho Handi will stage a five-bout women-only championship tournament. Four SA titles and a WBA title will be at stake.
The final tournament on Sunday will be staged by Eyethu Promotions of veteran promoter Mzimasi Mnguni. His charge, Thabo Sonjica, will put his IBO belt on the line against Toto Helebe in the main bout.
