BSA board will get paid

THE newly appointed six- member board of Boxing SA will get paid, though the remuneration will not be anything to brag about, according to Alec Moremi, the director-general of the sport and recreation department.

"The budget is very constricted," he said. "There is a financial conundrum. The boxing board does not generate sufficient funds and the board is being paid the lowest available scale, at the lowest tier of the scale."

The board's chairperson, Ntambi Ravele, said they were paid before - but at an even lower amount.

"It feels good that we will be paid," she said. "Look, I think it should go with the knowledge these experienced people are bringing in."

The new board comprises Ravele - the first female chairperson - Dr Peter Ngatane, Khulile Radu, Luthando Jack, Mandisinde Gcilitshana and Zandisile Kabini.

Ravele is a former Netball SA president, and has also served the PSL as general manager in marketing and corporate and communications. Ngatane, a former amateur boxer, was president of the SA National Boxing Control Commission, chairman of the Gauteng Provincial Board and the SA Boxing Control Commission.

He has been an executive member of the board of Boxing SA since its inception in 2001.

A former chair of the board, and vice-president of the African Boxing Union, Ngatane serves as an executive member of the medical team of the WBC. He is superintendent at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

Radu is a former pro fighter. The erstwhile chairperson of the Eastern Cape Boxing Organisation is now chairperson of Boxing SA's ratings and sanctioning committee.

Jack is a developer of the transformation charter of Eastern Cape Technikon.

Gcilitshana is stakeholder relations manager at Sasol, and government and community relations specialist at Rand Water. Kabini, the second female board member is the manager of business systems at Sars, among other titles.
