SPORT Minister Fikile Mbalula finally announced a new seven-member board for Boxing South Africa in Johannesburg yesterday.

The new board, under the chairmanship of Ntambi Ravele, comprises Peter Ngatane, Mzamo Alfred Gumbi, Zandile Matilda Kabini, Khulile Radu (who was in the ratings and sanctioning committee), Mandlenkosi Zoyisile Gcilitshana and Luthando Phillip Jack.

The board, which begins its term on June 1, comes at a time when there was no board.

After the death of Nonsansa Lebaka, who was the fourth remaining member of the previous board, the remaining trio did not form the quorum as required by the Boxing Act of 2011.

Acting chair Ravele and acting chief executive Loyiso Mtya kept the fires burning, with assistance from the office of Mbalula.

Mbalula yesterday, expressed gratitude to "the acting chairperson Ravele, Ngatane and Ntlanganiso for serving as caretakers while we were finalising the appointment of the incoming board".

The new board's term ends in 2017. Boxing SA is a legislated statutory body and receives funding directly from the government.
