The sides go into today's clash at Charles Mopeli Stadium (7.30pm) needing maximum points for differing reasons.
Pirates, fifth on the log, must win to clinch a place in the top eight.
Ea Lla Koto must also get a win to avoid the possibility of automatic relegation.
Pirates are in high spirits after beating Maritzburg United 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday to reach their fourth cup final of the season.
"We want to maintain the winning momentum and ensure we feature in the MTN8 next season," said Pirates defender Thabo Matlaba. "We understand their situation, but there is no way we will allow them to bounce back at our expense. We also have our image to protect and make our supporters happy.
"Our target is to win the two remaining matches [the last one will be against Golden Arrows on Saturday]," said Matlaba, who scored when they beat Stars 2-0 in the first round.
After earning a point in a 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs last week, Stars hope to register their seventh league victory of the season at the expense of Pirates.
In Limpopo, Polokwane City welcome Moroka Swallows to Peter Mokaba Stadium in a battle that almost ensures PSL safety to the winner.
City are 14th on the log with 27 points from 28 matches, while Swallows are 13th after accumulating 30 points from the same number of fixtures.
The Tlou "Spanner" Molekwane-led City defence must keep a close eye on veteran striker Siyabonga "Bhele" Nomvethe, who could embarrass them.
