BAFANA Bafana star Thulani Serero scored a stunning goal for Ajax Amsterdam yesterday as his Dutch club waited to celebrate their fourth successive league title.

But their planned party later in the night on the Amsterdam Dam Square was called off as their closest challengers Feyenoord Rotterdam also won to leave the championship chase still not settled.

Serero took the ball down with his left and scored with his right in a sweeping move as he ghosted around the back of the ADO Den Haag defence at the Amsterdam Arena in a 3-2 win for Ajax.

For Ajax to be crowned champions again, they had to see second-placed Feyenoord fail in their difficult away match at PSV Eindhoven. But Feyenoord won 2-0 and are still in the chase, six points behind with two rounds of matches still to play. Ajax had been unsure of Serero's fitness before the game as he battled last week with a knock but he played the entire 90 minutes as the midfield linkman.

It was Serero's clever pass which set up the second goal for Davy Claassen as Ajax broke the shackles after being held 1-1 at half-time. The next opportunity for the expected crowning of Ajax will be on the penultimate weekend of league action on April 27 away at Heracles Almelo.

There are no league games next weekend as Ajax take on PEC Zwolle in the Dutch Cup final on Easter Sunday.
