Mweene fit but might not start

PITSO Mosimane heaved a huge sigh of relief yesterday when his number one keeper, Kennedy Mweene, was declared fit to play.

But Mweene could play second fiddle to reserve keeper Wayne Sandilands when Mamelodi Sundowns host Polokwane City at Loftus tomorrow evening.

Sandilands had been twiddling his thumbs on the bench since Mweene was bought by the Brazilians at the beginning of the season.

But he made the most of a rare start last week to keep a clean sheet in Sundowns' 2-0 win at AmaZulu, putting in a fine display in Mweene's absence.

While Zambian Mweene has been given the all-clear, rising Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu is set to be rested after hurting his hip at training.

Contrary to earlier reports, Downs' towering defender Alje Schut has not fully recovered from injury.

Despite sitting in a lowly 14th place, two points above the relegation play-off spot, City's coach Boebie Solomons is confident they will still be campaigning in the Premiership next season.

"Perish that thought... there is no way we will be relegated," said Solomons.

"We will be here as large as life next season. We are playing good football but goals seem to be getting away from us.

"We are working hard and trying to create a big gap between ourselves and the two teams below us.

"We have a lot of respect for our opponents, but that does not mean we fear them. It will be business as usual. It is Sundowns who are under pressure to win because they are still in the running for the league title."

City's gifted central defender Thapelo Tshilo should have his hands full without one of their key players, Tlou Molekwane who received his marching orders in their game against Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday.

Right-back Rofhiwa Tshikovhi is injured.

Sundowns will be eager for revenge after City shocked them 1-0 in Polokwane in the first round.
