THE Bulls are back, and they have found the balance they needed to be firm competitors in this season's Super Rugby competition.

The cool head, creativity and boot of flyhalf Jacques-Louis Potgieter, together with the return of experienced flanker Deon Stegmann from injury, have been key to the Bulls resurgence, coach Frans Ludeke believes.

Potgieter, who played a crucial role when the Bulls first turned the corner against the Lions a week ago, was once again at the forefront when the Pretoria team beat the Blues 38-22 at Loftus on Saturday, collecting a total tally of 21 points - a try, drop-goal, two conversions and three penalties.

"He is playing well, converting his penalties, that drop goal was a vital one at a vital stage.

I'm glad for him. I'm just happy for Jacques-Louis," Ludeke said of the No.10 who is in his first season after returning from a stint in France.

In the forwards pack, Stegmann, playing in his first Super Rugby match this season following a groin injury, brought some stability to an inexperienced loose-forwards combination as his impact was immediately felt.

"Deon is a quality player. I'm just glad to have him back," the coach said.

The Bulls were woeful in the beginning of their campaign, unimpressive in their opening two matches where they lost to the Sharks and Cheetahs.

The team that played against the Blues was one that brought a breath of fresh air to the Loftus faithful - playing attractive and quality rugby. Ludeke believes it has always been part of their plans to produce the brand played at the weekend.

Captain Flip van der Merwe conceded his troops were growing in confidence. "It was really good - the guys were playing with a whole lot more confidence. Having the opportunity to run with the ball - everyone embraced it."
