FC CAPE Town caused a major upset in the National First Division on Saturday when they beat pacesetters Chippa United 2-0 at NNK Rugby Stadium in a Mother City derby.

Despite the loss, the Chilly Boyz are still topping the log with 31 points from 16 matches.

FC Cape Town have moved out of the relegation zone and are now 13th on the log with 15 points from the same number of games.

"There is no turning back for us now and we want to see ourselves challenging for promotion," said FC Cape Town coach Duncan "King" Lechesa yesterday.

"When I took over this team was at the bottom of the log but there is progress."

The goals were scored by Sfiso Thomo and Dickson Jason on Saturday.

Vasco Da Gama moved to second spot on the log, joining United on 31 points, but the Chilly Boyz have a superior goal difference.

Da Gama played to a goalless draw with Blackburn Rovers at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Durban.

Former log leaders Milano were relegated to third position following a 1-0 defeat by an improving Jomo Cosmos at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa. The goal was netted by Lehlohonolo Nonyane.

Milano, guided by Theo Hempe, are on 30 points, while the eighth-placed Cosmos are sitting on 21.

In North West, former Lesotho senior national team coach Leslie Notsi delivered on his promise of starting his new job at United FC with a win when they walloped Roses United 3-0 at Moruleng Stadium through a Linda Shaba's brace and a strike by Strydom Wambi.

"This is a great start and credit to the players for a job well done. I told my players that I believe in consistency and we need to keep on doing well to stay in the race for promotion," said Notsi.

United FC, who are now fourth on the log with 24 points, hired Notsi two weeks ago after showing Dan Malesela the door.
